Drug addiction counselling is a specialised therapeutic approach designed to address the psychological and behavioural aspects of drug addiction. Unlike treatments that solely focus on the physical dimensions of addiction, such as detoxification, counselling delves deep into the emotional and mental triggers that contribute to clients' mental health.
The primary purpose of counselling is to assist individuals in recognizing the root causes of their addiction, developing and integrating coping mechanisms to handle triggers and stressors, and forging a sustainable path to sobriety. It is a critical part of any addiction treatment plan.

It is a complex condition characterised by a compulsive and often uncontrollable urge to seek and use drugs, despite harmful consequences to the individual and those around them.
It emerges from the interplay of various factors including genetics, environment, and the individual's emotional state. Over time, excessive drug use alters brain functions, affecting judgment, decision-making, learning and memory, and behaviour control. This leads to the reinforcement of drug-taking behaviours, making breaking the cycle challenging and relapse common.
Addiction affects not just the physical well-being of an individual, but also their emotional, psychological, and social health. It creates rifts in personal relationships, hinders occupational and academic progress, and can lead to a myriad of legal and financial troubles.
Addiction is a multifaceted condition that encompasses not just the physical dependency on a drug, but also deep-rooted psychological, emotional, and social factors. While detoxification can rid the body of the substance, the underlying reasons that drove you to drug abuse in the first place often remain unaddressed. This is where this type of drug treatment becomes paramount.

Drug addiction counselling incorporates a range of therapeutic techniques, each tailored to meet individual needs and create a safe space. From traditional methods like CBT to more integrative approaches, the objective remains consistent - to equip addicts with the tools and strategies to overcome their trauma.
CBT is a widely employed technique in drug counselling. At its core, it focuses on identifying and rectifying negative thought patterns that contribute to substance abuse. By offering practical tools, addicts learn to confront and handle situations that would typically lead them towards drug use, thus preventing relapse.
DBT has its roots in CBT but introduces the concept of acceptance and change. DBT is especially effective for individuals with self-harming behaviours and is employed to regulate emotions, improve interpersonal effectiveness, and develop distress tolerance, all crucial skills for those battling addiction.
Integrative therapy, as the name suggests, merges various therapeutic tools and approaches to fit an individual's unique situation. Rather than adhering strictly to one methodology, counsellors using this approach are flexible, blending techniques from various disciplines to offer a more holistic treatment plan.
Often called drug counselling, is designed by counsellors who specialise solely in substance abuse and the underlying trauma that causes it. This form of therapy is deeply rooted in understanding the intricate facets of addiction, leveraging this specialisation to offer tailored strategies and interventions to those in recovery. It is designed to create a safe space for the client to feel supported and be held accountable.
Drug specialist therapy as it an integrative stance, this approach combines the best of both worlds, offering both empathetic listening and actionable guidance. With its roots in real-life experiences with addiction, this method is both empathetic and effective.

"I can see a future for myself and my young family"
I came across luke on google when I realised I needed help with my alcohol addiction, he has taught me positive methods to control my cravings and addiction. Before starting the course life wasn’t the greatest for me, drinking every day, a very repetitive life. Since I’ve stopped drinking, life has a much more positive meaning, I can see a future for myself and my young family. I owe a lot of this success to Luke and his sessions. I can’t recommend Luke enough for what he has helped me achieve.

"Rebuilding my life by giving me the tools I need to stay clean and rebuild relationships"
Luke has been helping me with my ketamine addiction and helping me with rebuilding my life by giving me the tools I need to stay clean and rebuild relationships. I’m very grateful to have found Luke and pushed me in the right direction. He’s gone above and beyond for me and my partner.

"The work I have done on myself through him has been life changing"
It’s difficult to put into words how thankful I am that I found Luke. It was at a dark time and I was sure that my addictions would end up ruining my life, but felt powerless against them. Luke not only looks at stopping the addiction, but more importantly goes right back to find what has led to it. Some of the realisations I’ve had during this journey have been groundbreaking for me. I have recently attended a big event that I never ever thought I would be able to get through without slipping, but thanks to the tools and techniques Luke has taught me, I not only got through the event but had the time of my life without even being tempted to slip into my old habits. Six months ago I would’ve thought that impossible. I will continue my journey with Luke as my counsellor. His friendly approach to the sessions make them something I look forward to and not something I have to do. I really can’t thank Luke enough, the work I have done on myself through him has been life changing.

"He seemed to truly care about my rehabilitation"
After exhausting many other routes of treatment my family and I found Luke at Lisa Inside Addiction at the perfect time. At this point I found myself completely lost and overwhelmed with life and was finding it difficult to engage with treatment. Off the bat Luke was someone that I found to be very personable and also trustworthy, and he seemed to truly care about my rehabilitation. Due to this I was able to engage fully with his teachings and I saw rapid success. Luke's knowledge of addiction and therefore my exact thoughts during the process was very helpful as he was always two steps ahead and had great insights and advice.

"This was the first time I actually felt like the therapist was engaged in my own personal feelings"
I came to Luke and Lisa Inside Addiction, after trying other therapies (1:1 and group). This was the first time I actually felt like the therapist was engaged in my own personal feelings and experiences while offering pragmatic ways of dealing with addition and the factors behind it. I write this review, just under 7 months clean and feel stronger and with the most will power I have ever experienced. I truly believe that Luke has done something different which has actually worked. He is a really nice, calm and personable guy. There is no awkwardness. I cannot recommend him enough.
